Beard oil or beard balm?
Beard oil is for softness and the skin under your beard, where dryness, itch and flakes start. If your beard is short, oil alone is usually enough. Beard balm adds light hold from beeswax, enough to keep flyaways and a wandering mustache in line without the crunchy look. Once your beard is long enough to stick out sideways, most guys use both: oil first, a little balm on top.
How to use beard oil
After a shower, on a damp or towel-dried beard, put 3 to 5 drops in your palm (a few more if your beard is past a few inches). Rub your hands together, work it down to the skin, then comb it through. Because you only need a few drops a day, one 2 oz bottle lasts most guys a couple of months.
How to use beard balm
Scrape a pea-sized amount with your thumbnail. Warm it between your palms until it melts, work it through your beard and mustache against the grain first, then comb it into shape.
What's in them
Beard oils: apricot kernel, coconut, grape seed, sweet almond, jojoba, hemp seed, Abyssinian seed and argan oils, the scent's essential oils, and rosemary leaf extract. (Contains sweet almond and apricot kernel oils.)
Beard balms: beeswax, organic sunflower seed oil, grapeseed oil, shea butter, organic extra virgin coconut oil, organic baobab oil, the scent's essential oils, and vitamin E.
The straight answers
Will beard oil make my beard grow? No. No oil or balm makes hair grow. They keep the hair soft and the skin under it moisturized, which makes a beard look fuller and less scraggly.
Will it make my beard greasy? Not at 3 to 5 drops. If your beard looks wet or shiny, you used too much.
Which scent is the most low-key? Pine Tar and Bay Runner. Campfire is the boldest.
